Deotsidh — The Pilgrim's Path
Practical notes for the journey to the mandir of Baba Balak Nath Ji. Plan once, and then let go.
Shri Baba Balak Nath Ji Mandir
Barsar, District Hamirpur
Himachal Pradesh 174306 · India
Opening hours: 5:00 am – 9:00 pm daily · Aarti at dawn and dusk
Getting There
Regular HRTC buses run to Deotsidh from Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Una. From Delhi, take an overnight bus to Hamirpur and a local connection onward. The final road climbs through forest — sit by the right window.
What to Bring
Plain, modest clothing
Light cotton in summer, layered wool in winter.
A head covering
A stole or scarf is enough.
Water and snacks
A small bottle and simple food for the climb.
Cash for offerings
For prasad and donations — cards are not always accepted.
A torch
If you arrive in the evening; the path is steep.
An open heart
Unhurried, willing — the most important thing you carry.
What to Expect
On Arrival
Remove your shoes at the designated rack. Wash your hands and feet at the basin. There is no hurry. The temple has been here for centuries; it can wait a few more minutes for you.
Darshan
The line moves slowly. Use the time to settle the breath and remember why you came. When you reach the inner sanctum, take three breaths before opening your eyes.
Offerings
Flowers, a small coconut, or rotot (the traditional sweet offering) are most common. The temple sells prepared thalis at modest cost — take what is given as prasad, even if it is more than you wish to eat.
Departure
Walk slowly out by the side path. Sit on the stone wall for ten minutes before leaving the grounds. Do not check your phone until you are well down the hill.
From Major Cities
Door-to-door notes for the most common starting points. Distances and times are typical — leave buffer for hill traffic and rest stops.
