About the Aarti

A flame circled at His feet

The aarti is the simplest and oldest of offerings — a small lamp circled before the Lord while His name is sung. For Baba Balak Nath Ji of Deotsidh, devotees light the lamp at dawn and again at dusk; on Sunday, after the day-long vrat, the evening aarti closes the fast. Sing softly, mean every word, and let the flame carry what the heart cannot say.

The Aarti

The Verses

Sanskrit, transliteration, and meaning — sing slowly, with breath.

Jaya Baba Balak Nath, tumhari aarti gaaun.

Devasiddh ke swami, tumhare charanon mein sir navaaun.

Victory to Baba Balak Nath Ji — we sing Your aarti. Lord of Deotsidh, we bow our heads at Your feet.

Maat Ratno ke tum laadle, Dhaunkal ke priya bhaai.

Baalak roop mein jag mein aaye, siddhon ne mahima gaai.

Beloved of Mata Ratno, dear brother of Dhaunkal — You came to the world in the form of a child, and the siddhas sang Your glory.

Gaayen charaaeen van mein tumne, murli madhur bajaai.

Devasiddh ki paavan gufa mein, dhuni sada ramaai.

You grazed the cows in the forest and played the sweet flute; in the sacred cave of Deotsidh, You kept the eternal fire alight.

Rot chadhe tumhare dar par, bhakt sabhi sukh paayen.

Ravivar ke vrat se, manvanchhit phal paayen.

Rot is offered at Your door, and all devotees find peace; by the Sunday vrat, every sincere wish bears fruit.

Jo bhi aaye sharan tumhari, khaali kabhi na jaaye.

Dukh-dard har lo Prabhu ji, har bhakt sukh paaye.

Whoever takes refuge at Your feet never returns empty-handed. Lift away our sorrows, O Lord, and let every devotee find peace.

Jaya Baba Balak Nath, tumhari aarti gaaun.

Amar Baalayogi, tumhare charanon mein sir navaaun.

Victory to Baba Balak Nath Ji — we sing Your aarti. Immortal child-yogi, we bow at Your feet.

The Vidhi

How the Lamp Is Offered

Light the lamp

A clean ghee or oil lamp with a single wick, placed before His image.

Offer flowers

Marigold or any fresh flower, with a few grains of rice and a pinch of roli.

Sing the aarti

Stand or sit, circle the lamp gently clockwise before Him as you sing.

Take the flame

After the final verse, draw the warmth of the flame to your eyes and forehead.

Let the Flame Speak

One small lamp, sung with sincerity, reaches further than many words. Sing the aarti at dawn or at the evening lamp — and on every Sunday, to close the vrat at His feet.
